So I may have started taking this stuff a little too far, but then, that is my modus operandi.
Today, in the year of out Lord Spaghetti Monster Two Thousand and Twenty Four, I started my own BBS. Not sure why, but so far it has been quite fun.
I’m using Mystic BBS, not for any specific reason, it was just the first one I found built on ARM. Running currently on an RPi 4, which may be overkill, but I might spin up some other things on it. It’s been a lot to learn tbh, with not much documentation to help.
But its up and running, even bought a domain name for it, 0xdecafbad.co.uk. The main domain points here, but the subdomain for the bbs is bbs.0xdecafbad.co.uk:2323.
As I was saying last night to my wife, the bots online have got fucking crazy. I had spun up the pi without a domain, so connect only through IP, and was getting around 120+ connection attempts per hour. Obviously bots just snooping open/default ports, they usually disconnected pretty swift.
I thought about tracing ips etc, but no real point other than curiosity, and I was off Ice Skating today, so never bothered.
So, like this site, I now have a 0xdecafbad BBS because reasons. I may have also downloaded mIRC again, but not sure thats so interesting atm.
It’s dead and a work in progress, but feel free to come on the bbs and leave me some mail, even if you just want to call me a cunt, it’s all good, lol
